A new patch for Battlefield 2 has been released by EA Games and DICE. The changelog can be seen below, but it's worth mentioning that some glitches have crept into this release, so their currently working on a hotfix release for this patch.
Windows will require additional free hard drive space for its operating system (virtual memory). If you encounter the following message in an error dialog: "Ran out of virtual memory", free up some more hard drive space.
To install Battlefield 2 Version 1.2 you will need approximately 2.0 GB free hard disk space for the full patch or 1.5GB for the incremental patch, plus space for saved games.
If you have Battlefield 2 installed to a different hard disk than where you have Windows installed then approximately 375Mb (full patch) or 100Mb (incremental patch) of the required free space must be available on the hard disk where Windows is installed.
To install Battlefield 2: Euro Force you will need approximately 800Mb free hard disk space plus space for saved games.
BATTLEFIELD 2: SPECIAL FORCES AND THE PATCH - It is very important to remember that the Special Forces executable is an earlier version of the game. If you have purchased Battlefield 2: Special Forces after you have installed the patch, you will need to reinstall patch 1.2 after installing Special Forces.
BUG FIXES & GAMEPLAY TWEAKS - Dolphin Diving is no longer possible - Players can no longer jump and shoot at the same time - "Prone Spamming" is now fixed - "Sprint exploit" is now fixed - Helicopters now carry 8 missiles rather than 14 - TV-Guided missile now have a shorter range - Damage decreased from M134 - Hit points on all air vehicles has been reduced - AA missile lock has been improved - All support kit weapons have been adjusted - All Sniper rifles have been adjusted - Sa80 has been adjusted - G3A3 has been adjusted - Reload while sprinting has been enabled - Medic defibrillator paddles have been adjusted. They now reload while not in use. - SCAR-L reload sound has been fixed - Server setting to allow friendly fire to be off on mines without affecting other weapons. - Server search filters now work properly - Mines can no longer be destroyed with other explosives - Bug in MP7 fire rate fixed. Ammo count increased and mag count and damage decreased - Flash bang effect radius decreased - Added unlocks for Sniper and AT kits - Fixed a bug in terrain rendering with night vision, whereby terrain was still dark in dark areas. - Fixed a bug whereby mods that are not bf2 or not xpack permutate shaders every time a level is loaded. - Fixed a bug whereby non-xpack mods cannot use xpack shaders. - Fixed bug in TV guided missiles of Havoc helicopter - The LAV25 no longer shoots through penetrable materials. - Vehicles no longer disappear when viewed from some vehicles with a HUD (e.g. Tanks). - Performance gain found in static mesh rendering. - Detonation radius from grenade launcher explosions has been reduced. - Grenade launcher projectiles now have a minimum distance. - Decreased Flashbang count from 4 to 3 - Replaced the existing Czech Flag with the correct one in the front end
EXPANSION OF RANKS - Ranks have now been expanded to allow for players to rank up to General
NEW FEATURE VISIBLE UAV - The UAV that is placed by Commanders will now include a visual element. An actual UAV will appear within the UAV detection radius and circle the area. Players will be able to shoot it down, bringing the UAV detection to a premature end. The Commander will be able to continue placing UAVs once the timer resets, as per current design.
KNOWN ISSUE ATI CROSSFIRE CARDS - Crossfire cards with 256 Megs of memory, running in CrossFire mode will run out of memory at very high resolution settings. On very high resolutions, such as 1920x1440 with 6x antialiasing. In CrossFire mode the ATI drivers are more restrictive about where resources are allocated, and as a result run out of memory sooner than with a single board. This running out of memory causes the device context creation to fail. The result is that the game just sits in a loop with a black screen. If you experience a context creation failure change your resolution to a lower setting (e.g. 1024x768 or even lower).
Included a remade version of this popular BF1942 map. Battlefield 2 version includes a 64 player layout and is configured for multiplayer only.
- Server Favorites / History
There is a new tab in the MULTIPLAYER menu that holds a list of the last 20 internet servers you have connected to, plus a list of servers you have selected as favorites.
* Added a button to the other multiplayer tabs that adds the currently highlighted server to your favorites list. * Added buttons in the in-game server info menu (press TAB to access) that will add or remove the server you are currently playing on to / from your favorites list.
- Account Login Welcome Screen
After you login to an online account, a message appears that contains BF2 news and information which updates periodically.
- Stat Compare
By clicking the COMPARE button in BFHQ, you can search for another players name and load their current stats into BFHQ. Using the arrow buttons next to the name in the top-left corner of the menu, you can toggle between your stats and their stats.
You can also load a player's stats by double-clicking on their name in any leaderboard.
- Nickname Prefix
You can add a 6-character prefix (such as a clan tag) to your account nickname which will be displayed in-game next to your nametag in the score menu, in game messages, and above your player in the game world.
* This prefix does not change your account name or statistic information (e.g. the prefix does not appear next to your name on the leaderboards). * You can change this prefix at any time at the account login menu.
- Server Reserved Slots
You can define a list of player nicknames that will act as a "reservation list" for your server.
* The list is located in mods\bf2\settings\ReservedSlots.con * You can add player names to the list by editing the file and adding the following text for each player :
reservedSlots.addNick where is the player's registered account name, not including a nickname prefix (see above). * You can define the number of slots to set aside for reserved players in the dedicated server launcher, or with the setting sv.numReservedSlots in your serverSettings.con file. * The number of players on the list and the number of reserved slots does not necessarily have to be the same.
- Mod Support
There are several new changes that improve support for mods.
* When connecting to a server that is running a mod that you have installed but not activated, it will be automatically activated and you will load into the server. * Added a filter on the server browser for servers running the currently activated mod. * Fixed dedicated server launcher to properly handle launching mods. * Improved support for mods sharing archives with bf2
- Improvements to in-game HUD / Map
* The viewable area of the spawn menu / commander map is now scaled based on the out-of-bounds area so that only the playable area takes up the majority of viewable map space. * The names of CPs are now displayed on the spawn menu / commander map and minimap * The minimap zoom level now changes dynamically depending on the type of vehicle you are in. If you zoom in or out manually, that zoom level is remembered for that vehicle type next time you use it. * The names of players in your vehicle are displayed in the HUD when someone enters the vehicle or switches positions. * There is a new element in vehicle HUDs that displays the reload time for countermeasures (smoke and flares). * Flags for each team are now displayed below their ticket count on the minimap to make it easier to tell what team you are assigned to.

If you are immediately eligible for a new promotion, unlock, badge, award, or ribbon, it will be awarded the next time you receive points on a ranked server. - Only 1 player in a vehicle will get credit for or speed up capturing a flag at a CP. Yes the swedish Battlefield 2 site BF2.se has had the opportunity to to try out the upcoming 1.03 patch for Battlefield 2. Here's a little snippet from the article of what they think think of the new Wake 2007 map:
Wake 2007 As soon as I jumped into the map the nostalgia smacked me right in the face. I can feel the warm feeling of all wars I played on it in 1942. This is the map that changed my way of thinking about 1942 and was one of my favourite map both in clan wars and that short public game between lessons in school, this is the map that made me the player I am today. Wake have been resting for 64 years to once again be brought to life, this time with the power of today’s new weapons. But Wake 2007 is the same as it was 1942 with the small difference that instead of the destroyer we got a small island as a spawn point for USA mounted with artillery. The ship is resting where it should with a lot of planes and helicopters just waiting to attack to shores of Wake.

A new Battlefield 2 Community has been posted over at the Official Battlefield 2 site. This one is about the upcoming 1.03 patch, which looks ready to be released in just a couple of days. This patch will not only come with alot of fixes, but also a brand new map (or really not), a remake of the classic Wake Island map from Battlefield 2 - looks nice
Community Update - 9/30/05Battlefield 2 1.03 Update Enters Final QA Pass
That's right, troops. Barring any last minute issues, the 1.03 update is only a few days from release now. We thought this occasion warranted a post covering the major features and fixes coming in 1.03, so settle back and enjoy.
Wake Island 2007 That's right, the 1.03 update bundles the first official map release from EA and DICE. In this case the map is a modern-era update of one of the most popular maps from Battlefield 1942 -- Wake Island. The People's Liberation Army has invaded Wake to threaten American supply lines. In response the US Marine Corps has been dispatched to reclaim the island. Pick a side and fight to win!
Stats compare - view the extended stats details for any other player in your BFHQ simply by double-clicking on their name on the leader board or using the new search feature!
Server Favorites and History - find your favorite servers that much easier. No more searching for them through the main server list!
Nickname Prefix - Add and change your clan tag to your account name at will. No more creating alternate account names to cover the changes in your competitive lifestyle!
Supply Drop Icons - Supply drops now appear on the main map and within the 3D Map. Find that elusive supply drop much, much quicker!
Points for Destroying Command Objects - players now receive points for destroying the commander's toys. Special Forces players rejoice!
Server Reserved Slots - Server Operators can now set aside slots for their admins to join a full server at any time!
Vehicle Passengers - the names of players in a vehicle with you are now displayed when you enter or change seats.
Countermeasures - a reload bar has been added for vehicle countermeasures. You'll always know now when you can set off that next flare!
Tweaks
Point Farming changes - DICE has implemented functionality that makes it significantly harder to point farm on Ranked Servers.
Mod Support - Mods now work properly with the Dedicated Server! Additionally, the game will automatically switch mods when joining a server that is running a mod you have installed but do not have activated.
Map tweaks - Spawn menu map and Commander maps now scale based on the size of the level being played (16, 32 or 64 players). Mini-map also scales automatically based on the vehicle type you are using (manual changes to zoom levels are remembered as well).
Commander scoring - No more TKs from Artillery!
Vehicle tweaks - No more accidental kills from bumping a friend with your tank (try to avoid hitting him at speed though) and no more struggling uphill in an APC. Also no more improper TK allocation from vehicle explosions.
Auto Team Balance tweaks - Commanders and Squad Leaders now immune to team switch.
Anti-Air Missiles - These are now much more effective against fast-movers.
and much, much more!
See everyone on the Battlefield soon!
There you have it, stay tuned for the patch will we'll hopefully will see asap.
